Today we’d like to introduce you to zissou tasseff-elenkoff.

zissou , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sports fans who love art and art fans who love sports can rejoice as Chicago’s first sports art gallery is now open in Logan Square. All Star Press is a new retail space and gallery in Logan Square dedicated to spreading our love and desire for printed material, with a focus in the world of sports, music and fine art. We are driven by a constant emphasis on quality making each one of our prints an All Star.

All Star Press is run and operated by Zissou Tasseff-Elenkoff, a designer and print maker based out of Chicago for the past decade. Along with being one of the most prolific commercial screen printers in the country,
Zissou made his mark in the Chicago art scene when he founded Galerie F in 2012. With All Star Press Zissou hopes to spread his life long passion for sports and create affordable, accessible sports art for fans world wide.
Tasseff-Elenkoff has combined his experience running various businesses with his love for illustration and print media to create a new store, gallery & e-commerce shop devoted to honoring the creativity of sports through posters, shirts, pins an more.

“All Star Press is an ode to my sports idols, new and legendary. It’s an extraordinary
feeling to be able fuse my passion for art and sports in a way that others may also share my enthusiasm. I’m really looking forward to growing this new body of work over the upcoming years and becoming a fan all over again” comments Tasseff-Elenkoff.

The England native graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and started his screen-printing business, FugScreens Studios, over 11 years ago making gig-posters for local bands, major artists and businesses all over the world. Most recently, Tasseff-Elenkoff teamed up with Nike/Jordan brand to illustrate and screen-print posters of all 29 original Air Jordan shoes. Working with the mecca in sports apparel and traveling to America to attend Phillies games as a kid since he was 4 years old, Tasseff-Elenkoff had all the inspiration he needed to start up All Star Press.

Has it been a smooth road?
All star press is my second retail space in the past 5 years and so ive learned a lot since my first space Galerie F , but you can never learn enough. it has undoubtedly been the hardest 5 years of my life. being a working artists , printer , store owner , business partner and a single father isnt easy, especially when you are doing it all on shoe string budget. That said i wake up and get to do what i love every day, though sometimes its hard to keep a good perspective when you are in it every day. running any business is hard but when its yours it never ends. the work doesn’t stop at 5pm is round the clock , constant.

i think the hardest challenge with any creative business is trying to keep up with all the competition, trying to do something no one has done before or show people a new way too look at something they have seen a million times, keeping it all interesting is hard.

All star press is acts a retails and gallery space for the work that Fugscreens studios produces along with being the only print and art store in Chicago devoted to sports and athletics.

Fugscreens produces prints and printed materials for artists all over the globe , part design studio part illustration part production facility and part gallery we do it all at FUG and ASP. having been in the design and gig-poster community for over a decade Fugscreens has been a staple in the art Chicago art scene for a long time, bring you Galerie F and artists like Jc Rivera , mosher street art and dozens of other muralists , designers , printers and illustrators alike.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is a great place to start a busines with a big city environment but the laid back atmosphere of the Midwest its slightly easier to set up here than in NY or London for instance. its slightly more affordable and not as competitive which can make it that much easier to get your foot in the door. i think sustainability is always an issue with any busines , how to grow and stay relevant .
