Today we’d like to introduce you to Vishnu Maya Upadhyay, Bilas Upadhyay.
Vishnu and Bilas, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had been working between several clinics after moving to the U.S. from Bahrain. The working experience was very hectic, time and energy consuming, and just did not fit in well for me. So in 2012, I decided that I wanted to open up my own practice where I could be in full control and run the place with utmost quality and care for the patient. By March of 2013, I started my practice. It started out slow but I finally felt like I was doing something right. Even if I did not get to see as many patients, the smiles that were left on the patients I did see were enough to keep me going. When my first clinic finally stabilized and business was good, I felt like I needed more so I opened up my second clinic in Garland. The more patients I saw the more I felt like me desires were all falling into place. Once both clinics were stable, I thought about pursuing a personal interest of mine to open up a medical spa. The decision was very risky, opening up a third franchise, but I decided to pursue it. To this day all three franchises are open and running smoothly along with the help of my wonderful staff and most importantly my loving husband. Without his support and advice, I could not have reached as far as I have today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were several struggles along the way. Several friends and families were concerned whether or not I could handle opening up a clinic being just a Nurse Practioner. There was also my family to think about, whether or not opening up my own business would be a smart decision and if I could be able to financially aid their needs. Also trying to make connections as a new person on the market was difficult, trying to gain the people’s trust and learning their techniques was all part of the tedious learning process. However, with the encouragement and love from my family, I was able to overcome all of these hurdles and allowed me to make it this far where I am today.
Please tell us about Pioneer Healthcare Clinic.
My business is best described as a family practice and medical spa. I specialize in woman’s health and family practice. I am known for being a healthcare provider in my clinics. I am most proud to be able to serve for the community which includes not only the patients but also my students, employees, and my family. I believe that what sets my business apart from the others is the quality and compassion we strive to give to our patients when they walk through our door. The goal is to make each patient feel like we are there to make them feel better and to give our full attention when we serve them.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Personally, I feel like all my failures and struggles have all happened for a reason and were a worthwhile learning experience. I am proud of what I have achieved up to date and would not change a single thing.
