Meet Vickee Vee of Vickee Vee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickee Vee.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The very first time I put on high heels, I was in 6th grade. They were these hideous, very, very tall boots. I thought I was so fabulous that day. That is until I fell down the stairs while getting off the school bus. I was completely mortified and embarrassed, but obviously, that didn’t stop me.

After 16 years, I can proudly say that I am now a pro and can roam the streets of Chicago all day in a pair of heels if need be. Fashion has always been a part of who I am, and growing up, everyone around me could see that. After failing at fashion design (my first major in college), I decided to go a different route and move from Milwaukee to Chicago to pursue Journalism.

Although being in the broadcast was also one of my many aspirations in life, I found that when I tested the waters in other endeavors or careers, every path I strayed off onto seemed to always lead me back to fashion. So, I stopped fighting it and started figuring out how I was going to contribute to the industry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been easy. Aside from always being broke from doing photo shoots and projects, the more mental roadblocks as a creative has been difficult.

Getting people to understand your work and appreciate it has been discouraging at times, and I’ve fallen so many times, but I’m lucky to have great friends and mentors who encourage me, keep me positive and hold me accountable for when things don’t add up.

There was also a point in my career where I hated being in the fashion industry. I didn’t feel happy or fulfilled anymore, and I questioned my purpose daily. I knew that I had a gift for styling, and I was talented and creative, but I realized that I wasn’t being my authentic self.

And not being my authentic self-resulted in me not helping people the way I needed to be, which was on a deeper level – a level where I could help people find their true selves and teach them how to be confident and strong.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Vickee Vee story. Tell us more about the business.
I call myself a “Style Therapist,” because I truly believe that what I do goes beyond clothes and just looking good on the outside. It’s also about making you feel amazing on the inside. It’s therapeutic not only for the client but also for me because I get the chance to be a part of someone’s journey to becoming the best possible version of themselves.

And that to me is beautiful. My specialty is wardrobe consulting – which consists of complete closet cleanouts, personal shopping and more. Basically, I’m here to give you that second eye – or to make the decision on whether those hot pink, alligator shoes from 1999 should stay or go. I think people are drawn to me because I’m very minimal.

I like to keep things simple, and clean – in regards to your closet and style. In a day and age where everyone is trying to do the most in fashion, I believe in staying true to who you are. In 2016, I started my wardrobe consulting business, and in 2017 it became an official company.

Many great things have happened the last few years, and I’ve been lucky to have some great opportunities, but nothing has been as great as realizing who I wanted to be and where I wanted to take my business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
What is luck? I don’t even know what the definition of that is. Needless to say, I haven’t been too lucky throughout my life.

I stopped believing in luck a long time ago because I figured out that as long as I worked my butt off, stayed true to who I was and surrounded myself with other amazing go-getters, that I would be successful.

Luck only gets you so far. You’ve got to be a hustler, and make your own dreams become reality.
