Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Lipman-Aviles, David Lipman.
Vanessa and David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband (David Lipman) who has worked at Morton Grove Animal Hospital over 10 Years would always be asked if he dog walked or pet sat. So When he was younger he would always do little side gigs to make extra income. He started small and grew a few loyal clients. When I came into his life I was managing a Medical facility in Edgewater. We sat down and went over the possibility of me helping grow the business into something great. I have always had a great love for animals and with my professional side I knew how to start and run a business. As we decided to grow our family and the company grew as well, we made the decision that I would leave my job. I am now a stay at home mom of two boys 2 & 8 years old, I run the business and am also a free-lance photographer. My little one joins us on walks and daily visits. My husband and I switch off so that he only joins with pets that are comfortable with kids (clients fill out paperwork and are notified to make sure we have their permission), 80% of the time I put him in a sling on my back and off we go 🙂 Some people are surprised with how much help my kids actually are they are really part of the team! They help socialize the animals, play fetch and play with them and their toys and exert energy. Having our kids with us also allows for a family like setting when clients have to leave for an extended amount of time. We know this is not for all homes and will leave the kids and have just the grownups at work when necessary. As we grow and new clients join our H.A.P.C Family it fills our hearts with joy and a sense of fulfillment in our hearts.
Has it been a smooth road?
With most businesses there are always bumps in the road. Owning your own company is a privilege but it also comes with responsibilities and ups and downs. I would have to say the biggest challenge was making the jump from a full time guaranteed paycheck from a stable job to being fully responsible for your success and the well-being of your family. But we always knew I (Vanessa) wanted to be an entrepreneurs and spend more time with my family and do what I love so it’s been really rewarding.
My daily obstacles and challenges are trying to keep my emotional investments with our clients at bay. We often look at our clients like family and invest all emotions, time spend, love and energy with these animals and we often get calls that our clients are moving, no longer need us, or have passed away. We often miss them but always understand and want the best for them and family.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Home Alone Pet Care Inc. – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best- this city is so diverse and filled with cultured people, I learn from every day. I love the people here, I love getting to know the families I service and their loved ones stories.
Sometimes being in this field you see the sad parts of the city- the shelters and the neglect. I only hope we can raise more awareness with breed knowledge, pet parenting, fundraising and come together to find a solution to stop the overpopulation of shelters.
