Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Perry.
Tiana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a licensed esthetician and makeup artist. I began my makeup journey at the age of 9. My eyebrows were improperly arched by several family members in an attempt to clean them up. The aftermath was two thin straight lines in which I was sent to fourth grade with fake brows on – so needless to say, makeup chose me! Ever since – I was on a quest to learn how to make the perfect brows as my eyebrows never really grew all the way back in. I was always the girl in school that wore a face full of makeup, and would have the entire gym class learning how to do a perfect white eyeliner and glossy lips with a full black unblended lip liner (oh no! lol, this was the style at the time). Fast forward to me as an adult – I became intrigued with makeup about 10-15 years ago when J-LO would have the glow on her face. I would go to the makeup counter with pictures of J-LO and with the help of the clerk would purchase products to create a glow bronzed look. I was highlighting and contouring before I even knew it was a thing! About 5 years ago – I learned more advanced techniques and started my career as a makeup artist. I graduated from Aveda Beauty School with an esthetician license, and I now teach makeup workshops to help women feel and look beautiful inside and out. My motto is simple – when you look better, you feel better!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My makeup journey wasn’t the smoothest but it was definitely worth the blood, sweat, and tears. One of the biggest challenges that I faced was sacrificing my weekends and juggling my career and family life. It’s not always easy to have to miss important functions because you have to work – but the reward is worth it looking back. My advice to any young women who would like to start their makeup journey is to never let anyone tell you that you are not good enough to do what you want to do in life. Never let anyone tell you that a makeup artist is a hobby and not a career. Follow your dreams and live your life with no regrets and don’t let anyone hold you back.

I specialize in enhancing the natural beauty to make a person feel like themselves but just more glamorous. I travel to do fashion shows as well as wedding events. When I am not traveling, I am attending to my high demand of large clientele in the Wisconsin area. I started my business B.L.U.S.H Makeover Studio 1 year ago, and I specialize in full body makeovers. What sets me apart from others is my ability to give each client their own unique look – as opposed to doing the same technique each and every time. I feel that every person is beautiful, and I just use my skills and attention to detail to let their true beauty shine.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel that women today have more opportunities than ever before. With the beauty industry on the rise, there has been a lot of room for women to be their own boss, and make a good income while connecting with other women. We have the opportunity to do jobs that we love to do, have flexible schedules and be our own entrepreneurs.
