Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Lindemann.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hmm, food is just awesome! I’ve always been into food. I had a subscription to Cooking Light in high school, haha! I’ve always been that person who takes pictures of their food if it’s something that looks really good, although I just kept them on my phone. I’ve also dealt with depression my entire life, and at the lowest points, I tend to lose my appetite. A few years back, I was at a pretty low point and started taking pictures of yummy looking food around me to remind myself both to eat and that there were things to be happy about. After all, food makes people happy. I think that’s why people like food blogs so much.
Anyways, I started a private Instagram account just for myself, then made it public eventually and it just kind of grew from there. 🙂
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If it was a smooth road I probably would have gotten bored a long time ago, haha! I think the main struggle now is finding time to create quality content. It takes time to go out and find great food, take pictures and/or video, upload/edit the content, create the captions or write up the articles, respond to comments and E-mails, and still find time for a social life on top my regular job. I drink a lot of coffee. But if you love something, you’re willing to put in the work right?
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Foodcellfie – what should we know?
I run the food and lifestyle blog Foodcellfie! It’s mostly about food but since it’s just me running it I put in other things that I like to do sometimes. I like music, and traveling, art, stuff like that. I’m proud that I’ve managed to create something that interests other people, that hopefully, they enjoy.
I think I’m different because I’m actually just a hungry panda in disguise.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I grew up in the Midwest and was raised on a typical Midwestern diet: casserole, hot dish, chicken and mashed potatoes. Of course, I love those things, but because I was never exposed to a wide culinary variety I think I’ll always be fascinated by the endless ideas in food, for the rest of my life. Even if I had never created Foodcellfie, I’d still be a lover of food. I think that natural passion is pretty important.
