Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilda Custodio.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my nail journey in May of 2014. I have always been interested in nails and wanted to really go all in. I started off just doing No-Chip Manicures and then started learning how to do acrylic nails and gel nails. I am self-taught and in May of 2018 became a Licensed Nail Technician. I always look back at old pictures of my work from when I first started to see how far my work has come!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not, being self-taught I didn’t receive much help at all so I had to do a lot of trial and error to find the products that worked best and the techniques that worked for me. It definitely makes everything I do so much more worth it because I’ve learned to appreciate and learn from those hard times. My advice is never to give up, always believe in yourself, and practice as much as you can! I am always more than willing to help with any questions anyone might have as well!

I specialize in Acrylics. I am most proud of how far my work has come over the years and how happy my clients leave after their appointments. I think what sets me apart from others is my dedication to always keep learning, I take every single appointment as a learning process because not everyone has the same nail shape and not everyone likes the same style of nails. I definitely like to practice everything I can so that I can cater to all my client’s needs.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Stay dedicated, don’t be so hard on yourself, and never stop practicing.
