Thanks for sharing your story with us Candice. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a writer and always have been. For as long as I can remember, I’ve immersed myself in books and wrote stories, mapping out my life the way I thought it should be, no matter how outlandish it seemed. Being a teen mom, although not uncommon, I had my son just before the boom of reality tv. It wasn’t glamorous nor was it something I would’ve felt open enough to share with the world. My story is mine and I’ve always wanted to share my side and how I got here, connect with women going on their journeys and trying to figure out who they are, no matter what age and how many times we feel we need to start over. I feel like I’m starting over now. My son and I grew up together and being that he’s a product of the social media age, I feel creating my podcast and blog will help me navigate my way in this new stage in my life. Hopefully, my journey inspires some to know that it’s ok to start over or to just start.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Never smooth! But the reason for that is because I’ve made it that way. When trying to share my truth with an audience and learning along the way, I have to give myself room to make mistakes and keep going. My struggles have been not being consistent and letting fear slow me down. What I’ve learned is I just have to do it, like writing. Push through and before you know it, you’re on the other side and didn’t even notice the transition. That’s why some call it the “beautiful struggle.” For young women starting their journey. Don’t be afraid of yourself and your own voice. Get out of your own way, most times, this is our only obstacle. Don’t be afraid to fail and know that it’s okay to ask for help. Take care of yourself first and keep your word!

My work has been a few years in the making. In creating my blog years ago, I shared my poetry and writing in a more simple form that I could convey. At times, it felt that people wouldn’t be able to connect with my abstract poetry and I wanted another way to share my thoughts. I feel I’m best known for telling my truth and hope in that, inspiring others to do the same. I’d like my podcast to form a more in-depth look at how I’m getting through my journey of being creative on a more consistent level and sharing stories of others doing the same. I also have conversations with people going through their own transitions. I’m most proud of teaching myself the fundamentals to create this outlet and sticking with it, knowing I have such a long way to go. What sets me apart is my story. Its mine and mine alone and nobody can tell it like I can. Making a creative forum for others to do the same is the ultimate goal.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I grew in a military family, moving around often. I had a unique experience in having the opportunity to travel and meet an array of different people throughout my life. I grew up in a household where creativity was dense but not explored on a normal basis until later on. My talents were celebrated at an early age yet muted with an immense stage fright that took over and doused any kind of aspiration I had to pursue them. I had a beautiful childhood and wouldn’t change my experiences but wish I would’ve had more of a push to overcome my challenges.
