Meet Trailblazer Candace Armour

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Armour.

Candace, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While finishing my undergraduate degree at Washington University, I decided to pursue my MBA immediately while finishing my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. In my senior year of college, I started my first business – a hair extensions company – Fancy Extensions. It was pretty successful given that I built the business while finishing both my bachelors and masters degree. I learned a lot about entrepreneurship at a young age and knew it was something I always wanted to pursue.

When I graduated from college, I began working in Corporate America doing digital marketing technology consulting at Accenture. Due to my workload, I was no longer able to manage my hair extensions company while working and traveling as a full-time employee – so I laid my business to rest.

After a year and a half into the corporate world, I decided I wanted to impact lives in a different way. That’s when I started the blog, Epic Fab Girl, in 2016. Its goal was to help women discover their purpose and go after their dreams fearlessly. Since then, it has evolved into a community and online platform for faith-based, career-minded women entrepreneurs and influencers.

In September 2017, I decided to give full-time entrepreneurship a shot. I quit my job and focused more on building my brand, Epic Fab Girl. In March 2018, we hosted our first ever Go-Getter Conference, and it was a sold-out event. The Go-Getter Conference is a powerful experience for women entrepreneurs and influencers who will make lasting impacts on society by living on purpose. Delving into the topics of finances, friendship, work-life balance, romance, faith, and entrepreneurship – this conference is for the modern-day woman who is seeking fulfillment in her relationships, success in her endeavors, confidence in her own skin, and most of all – wholeness in her walk with God. We garnered support from brands such as Thank God It’s Natural, Lotta Body, Cliquish, Made Magazine and more.

After leaving my corporate job, I also started the Brand Strategy Consulting company, Candace Junée Consulting. I wanted to be able to help more entrepreneurs and small businesses thrive and become exceptional businesses. Through Candace Junée Consulting, I help brands maximize their profits, expand their impact and make more money. I offer a variety of marketing and strategy services including brand launch strategy, email marketing, Facebook and Instagram Ads, and marketing and branding strategy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship has not always been a smooth road, but creativity, faith, and consistency have helped me stay afloat throughout the process.

At first, it was extremely difficult to juggle my hair extensions company and my full-time corporate job, so I gave up on my entrepreneurial endeavors. After a year and a half into corporate life, I started my blog Epic Fab Girl which was a ton of work. It was extremely difficult to manage to work a full-time job while simultaneously building a brand, but I had to become extremely disciplined about my time.

As a new business, it can be difficult to find the resources to accomplish what you want to achieve. Creativity and faith have always helped me be a better entrepreneur. I had to choose to believe in myself because if I didn’t believe in my vision, nobody else would. When I began sharing my vision for Epic Fab Girl with other people, they were able to see my passion, and as a result, they jumped on board to support the vision. When I didn’t have the resources I needed, I had to get creative and learn the art of negotiation so that I could accomplish my end-goal given the number of resources I had.

My advice to other women who are just starting their journey is to have faith in yourself and your vision, to never give up, to remain true to yourself, and to never compare your journey to those around you. Too often you may fall victim to comparison if you are not, but a comparison is a thief of joy. Your journey is unique, and you should know that you’ll be successful if you have the right attitude, work ethic, and the right people around you to support you on your journey.
