Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Bishop.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brianne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always wanted to be doing exactly what I am doing. As a young girl, I would create multi-level floor plans by arranging images from my parent’s Architectural Digest magazines; and since then, I never veered from her dream of being an Interior Designer.
As a Licensed Interior Designer, I founded Brianne Bishop Design in 2009 after years of working for a design/build Architecture/Interior Design firm that specialized in high-end residential and hospitality projects. Trained under a prominent Chicago modernist Architect, I refined my skills in not only interior design, but also architecture, construction management, and building systems, making her more knowledgeable on all aspects of her field. These additional skill sets add an unparalleled value to my approach to every project. My goal is to provide every client with an environment that meets their vision and needs, with the addition of a timeless style, and just the right amount of the unexpected. I pride myself on value, honesty, and communication.
I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the prestigious Harrington College of Design, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management from Western Michigan University. I also had the experience of studying art history and architecture in London. While there, I then traveled throughout Europe, experiencing firsthand the fundamentals of my practice.
I was recently awarded “Best Design Firm -Contemporary” 2015 by Interiors-CS Magazine. I was also a recipient of the inaugural “Top 5 under 5” award and recognized as a Distinguished Alumni by Harrington College of Design. In 2007, Chicago Scene magazine named me as a “Designer to Watch.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first couple of years, I worked really hard getting any and all work I could get my hands on. This included not-so glamorous projects, but enough to pay the bills, grow my business and gain more experience. It was, at times, frustrating and discouraging as it was not allowing me to really express my style or gain the recognition I was craving. This all changed when I finally had a creative project of furnishing a luxury penthouse and it was published in a local magazine. After that feature, the projects started flooding in.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brianne Bishop Design – what should we know?
We are a high-end residential Interior design firm specializing in everything from full scale remodels to custom furniture and window treatments. We also take on commercial and hospitality projects of all scales.
We are known for edgy, modern interiors utilizing texture, contrast and scale to bring interest to the space. I take a lot of pride in my repeat clients who also refer us to their friends and family; there is no greater compliment! I also like to approach my projects and clients with no ego. I like to make it a fun process and typically become very close friends for life by the time the project is complete.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel a lot of opportunity since becoming a mother. Majority of my clients have young children and it helps me better understand how a home should function best for little ones and be resilient to their messes! It also taught me patience, time management, and multi-tasking! I have also been asked to sit on panels for “women in construction” which was a huge honor to be considered to be so knowledgeable in a primarily male-dominant industry.
