Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Burfiendt and Dawn Wu.
Ashley and Dawn, please share your story with us.
We created our vision of Pure Salon in 2014. We wanted to create an environment that was relaxing, offered exceptional customer service; all while keeping the environment in mind. It is important for us to prioritize quality over quantity. Guests will find us to be a quiet, smaller-scale salon with a lot of personal touches. We offer a complimentary sensory journey with Young Living oils that includes a scalp, neck, and shoulder massage with every non-chemical service. We also provide every guest with a hot towel treatment on their hair (facial towels for men) and hand massage.
We are a full-service hair salon that offers haircuts, Goldwell haircolor, blowdry/styling, hair treatments, and facial waxing. We also provide bridal services by offering hair and makeup services, (either in-salon or on-location). We start by having our brides fill out a bridal questionnaire that gives us the chance to get to know them better to help prepare for the big day, followed by hair and makeup trials.
We offer AG Hair and Sojourn hair products. Both using natural ingredients, ensuring they are gentle on the hair but that they also deliver results. We are a certified Green Circle Salon. They help us provide sustainable solutions for repurposing, recycling, and capturing 95% of salon and spa waste.
At Pure Salon, we are committed to sharing the elevated craft of hairdressing with each client. Our team of professionals is committed to excellence; not only by their choice of products but also in every detail of our guest’s experience. We strive for superior customer service in the salon and our community, and we strive to deepen our love of the industry through continuing education.
Has it been a smooth road?
On this journey, we have had constant growth, both in person and in business. There is always something new to learn. We have been lucky to have mentors, peers, and even clients continue to advise and educate us on along the way.
There have been moments of struggle; such as hiring the wrong person, making a wrong purchase, or working through a situation. However, these situations have given us the opportunity to learn and try again in a different and better way.
Our advice for young women starting a business is to just do it! It is a scary risk, and you will have doubts, but there are so many people out there that will support and guide you to succeed. Mistakes are for growth opportunities.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
For a young woman starting in the beauty industry, it is important to get experience. If you are in cosmetology school, find an internship or shadow a fellow hair stylist. Ask to experience their environment and ask questions! There are so many avenues in the beauty industry that you shouldn’t limit yourself. Also, continue to educate yourself. With social media as a major influence and the beauty industry constantly changing with trends, it is important to know how, what, when, and why. If someone in the industry inspires you, spend the money to learn from them. Remember quality versus quantity.
