Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Klump.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Dexter has been in business since 1904 and has been in this location since the 20’s. My father was a stationery engineer till he purchased the business in 1982. We are the 4th owner and the first to be multi-generational. I have worked here since 1983.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been quite the rollercoaster ride for sure like any small business but we are still here. The recession of course hurt us but we are still here. People always need to lock up their stuff after all.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Since we have been around so long we obviously specialize in antique locks but that’s not all. We have a large regular customer base that includes big name restaurants and bars, retail stores, apartment buildings and single family homes. Our customers include celebrities, athletes and politicians
What were you like growing up?
I was born and raised in Berwyn, the youngest of 5 and the only one in my family to work with my father. His work ethic and mechanical skills are what inspired me the most. I was going to college for computer science when I started working for my dad and well……Here I am
