Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Giannini.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My fiancé Mike Fazio and I wanted to open a place in our neighborhood that would be the go-to place for adults and kids alike. Mike had this concept and we created a modern, whimsical, beautiful space that serves awesome burgers, chicken sandwiches, wings, gourmet mac n cheeses and so much more. We also serve an exclusive ice cream that comes from The Chocolate Shoppe in Madison Wisconsin. It’s truly delicious!!!
Fizz Eatery & Soda Fountain – An old-fashioned, neighborhood malt shop located in Belmont Heights where friends and family can gather over fabulous ice cream creations and more, was the brainchild of Mike Fazio. Besides Mike, the fellow owners are Teresa Giannini, Rose Dante, and Marco Federow. Delighted to have an opportunity to give back to the area where Teresa and Rose grew up, (and still call home) these eager entrepreneurs hatched a plan for a whimsical eatery.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anything worth doing is going to be hard, but worth it. We opened in August instead of the beginning of the summer like we had wanted. We missed most of the warm summer months. Since then we were bombarded with business and had a hard time keeping up. Practice makes perfect and we have ironed out all of the kinks and streamlined our staff to the best of the best. Things are working smoothly now and every single person that walks in that door raves about the food, service, and atmosphere. People really love it!
Fizz Eatery and Soda Fountain – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I always feel that in any business you are in the “people ” business. We are in the People business serving food. We try and make every experience stellar. We serve the best food and ice cream. The décor is absolutely outstanding. You have to see it. You walk in not expecting the attention to detail that went into building Fizz. The atmosphere brings you back to the 50’s. 50’s music playing on an original jukebox playing 45’s. The staff is uniformed in blue jeans, white button-down shirts and red bow ties and suspenders. Our soda jerks are trained to make the perfect sundae, shake or homemade soda. We are truly original. There isn’t another restaurant like ours around.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
That every single customer is not only satisfied but wowed. Our sales are growing monthly and we constantly give back to the community. We continually host fundraisers for schools, libraries, sports programs etc. where we give back 20% of the sales from that day.
