Meet Taylor Miller of Taylor Miller HHC in Lakeview

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Miller.

Taylor, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as a model and then became a Soap Opera Star. Both of those required a thin body. I was a big fan of diets to control my weight. I left All My Children where I had played Nina Cortlandt for many years and moved to LA and tried my hand at acting on that coast. I had some success in 10 months. I started hiking, running 6 days a week and working out furiously. I had an “ah ha” moment when I was doing a Jane Fonda burn burn burn exercise class and I thought I don’t want to treat my body this way anymore. I met the man who was to become my husband, left LA and moved back to NYC to work on Another World for a short time and then back to AMC. I was voted one of the best bodies in daytime by the Oprah Show but refused it because I thought that was sexist 🙂

I finally made the decision to leave AMC, move to Chicago to marry Eli. We had a daughter right away When I was pregnant I realized I had no idea how to eat. I was used to exercising and eating to be a soap opera star not to carry a child. I had to learn how to cook things other than desserts and for dinner parties. Big learning curve. My husband had a motorcycle accident and it really brought home the need to have nutritious food so he could heal. Still not very educated. When our son had the symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis I finally had to get real serious about food. I went with him to a naturopathic doctor and he told me that Eli 3 had leaky gut. To do the allergy elimination diet with him so he could get rid of the symptoms or don’t come back. We both did it. He healed his gut and has no symptoms even to this day. I am so grateful for someone who guided me to go in that direction.

When I saw how food can heal, I decided to study to become a holistic health coach. I needed help in my eating habits. I was off sugar which had been a real problem, but still had no idea how to eat. I was very confused and focused a lot on food. I had to be very stringent. It was no fun for anyone! I was 50 by this time and I was so tired and felt old and frumpy. I studied and started to specialize in how foods affect the hormones and cause belly fat. Since my energy is now so much better and my weight steadier I have decided that teaching middle aged women how to eat for their bodies is a real service I can provide so women can get off the dieting merry go round that I was on. It is miserable to always dislike your body and have no peace when you are eating. . I love the freedom myself. I love it when people around me get freedom of choice too! I love good food!! I eat when and know how to make choices today. I’m 64 and am on no medications and feel great. It is all because of food. Thank you!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
People use food. Of course. We just don’t like the consequences of using it. That’s why diets are so popular. We can lose weight and then put it back on again when we go back to the same habits.

I had to reach a bottom. Mine came because I didn’t want my kids seeing how I ate sugar and yet limited their intake. I felt like a hypocrite. I eliminated sugar because I binged on it. I loved it. It turned out I have no idea how to eat. If I don’t eat sugar what do I eat? I found out I am allergic to alcohol too. So two big sources of sugar were knocked out of my diet. I had to learn how to get energy from REAL food.

That sounds crazy, but it has been a journey. I had really defaulted to both of those things, they were the “go to” to cope with life, I fortunately I did it to the exclusion of real food. By 50 my body was so tired I started on a quest to heal.

I think a lot of people identify with this challenge. But it takes time to change habits and not just diet. I’m glad I continue to do it. I have peace of mind, I know what to eat, when to eat, how to eat. I can eat pretty much anything, but I have gotten to know my body and I can choose wisely. It is a great way of life. This is what I teach others. How to have the freedom.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Taylor Miller HHC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am proud of giving people freedom around food. I have worked with men and women successfully. Some people are really ready to change their habits. The transformational coaching part allows them to see why they reach for food and frees them up to make choices.

I teach people how to listen to their bodies so they don’t have blood sugar crashes and then pig out on bread as soon as they sit down at the table. Being aware of your body’s signals is such a gift. The fact that I can work specifically on belly fat and target that area has been a lifesaver for me. Yes, when you get rid of belly fat you feel more attractive, but it also staves off heart disease and diabetes.

I think having accountability and actually being able to tell someone the truth about your relationship with food is enormously freeing. As we age our bodies become less resilient and change becomes imperative. My goal is to provide a way for people to have freedom as they age. Freedom and vibrant energy.

With my son I could see that what seemed to be an unavoidable course was CHANGED by attention to food. I am so grateful he is not in a wheelchair in chronic pain. He is instead a scratch golfer and is body surfing in Costa Rica right now! When we eat well for our bodies we become more powerful!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I work privately with clients and do transformational coaching, which is based on NLP. People come to me who are stuck. Although they have a good life, they can’t see it. Old ideas have them stuck!! This can be very painful. Coaching moves them forward. The answers come from within. It is compelling to be witness to it.

When I work with people around food I have some groups. As well as the hormone RESET I am planning a leaky gut RESET in the spring. This is what we did with E3 a few years back. I think this will be very useful for people who have joint aches and pains, symptoms of arthritis and other autoimmune symptoms. They need to take the actions and I provide accountability and the information.

I really can see that people are empowered as their change their relationship with food. There is so much freedom available. It is very exciting.

Note: When my children were still at home, before I transitioned to health coaching, I was a voiceover in Chicago for 25 years. I was very fortunate. I did major campaigns like Quaker Oatmeal, State Farm Insurance, Nature Made Vitamins, to name a few.
