Meet Tavi Veraldi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavi Veraldi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story begins as a young girl going to local comic shops with my brother. I would search through the 50 cent bins and find whatever appealed to me. It turns out all those comics I came across, I still cherish to this day. I found Evan Dorkin, Peter Bagge, Jim Mahfood in these independent comics that got forgotten about. Most the stuff when I was a pre- teen flew over my head, but I was more interested in the stark black and white illustrations. These comics became the glue of my world, along with movies. Me and my friends would try and get the sleaziest to the cheesiest films we could get our hands on. We had to see them all. The weirdo nerd underbelly was my favorite snack and I wanted to be a part of it. I let all these films and comics take over my life (they still do) and inspire me every day to make and create and just something on paper. I started seriously freelancing over the few years doing mostly gig posters. Today I live in Chicago with my wife, where we share a home that is also our studio. I do freelance for mostly shows and Logan Arcade. I still have a day job, but when I get home I work on my art,

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always up and down. I think that’s a huge part of being an artist. I have submitted and applied for so many gigs I have been rejected from. But for me that’s fuel to the fire to keep moving.

Please tell us about Tavi Veraldi.
I am primarily an illustrator. I specialize in posters. Big campy posters with lobsters, eyeballs, phones, grave stones, and whatever else I think looks playful. I am most proud of the full color event posters for Logan Arcade I mentioned previously. What sets me apart? A lot of things do, my world is made up being a queer woman who is obsessed my VHS collection, and how many Dracula movies I can own. I can draw to cutest cartoonish cat to the most vibrantly colored gut explosion scene from the movie Slim City, without my style changing.
