Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Heibel.
Tara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being in love with nature and design I craved a destination that would offer both combined in one accessible package – thus Sprout Home was born. Sprout Home first opened its doors in 2003 in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood and followed up in Williamsburg Brooklyn in 2007. Sprout Home also has a sister store in each city across the street from the main stores in which focus’ on home accessories titled Sprout Home Kitchen &Table.
A plethora of interesting and unusual plants and flowers are available to peruse and purchase with objects that help define and highlight said selections. A place to play and inspire with a knowledgable staff to educate and assist.
Basically, my dream come true and i hope that everyone who comes visits us walks away with the same feeling.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road in regards to creating and working at Sprout Home – it being my dream job. Getting my hands dirty everyday and covered in dirt might not be everyones ideal day but it is mine. How can one be unhappy with foliage and flowers surrounding them?
There is always struggles with owning your own business. As long as one expects the extra long hours and hard work they are struggles that can be overcome. I enjoy the challenges my job brings and introducing people to new and interesting finds at the stores. It is great to see the excitement in people faces, talk to them about what they are looking at and help them find solutions to adding green to their homes.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sprout Home – what should we know?
Sprout Home is known as a retail destination for unusual plants, flowers and accessories and also our rocking staff that is always ready to help. We also offer educational classes, local deliveries and design services. There are so many things that I am proud of in regards to Sprout Home (if you could see me know you would know that I am blushing)… if I had to say one thing I would say the overall excitement and energy that the stores have. Surrounding yourself with amazing greenery and well designed products doubled up with the most amazing staff i can’t help but feel awesome.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Ready to put my back and time in to something. Being ready and able to take risks. Surrounding myself with the right people. Being a plant and flower geek.
