Tanya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My experience began during my teenage years. I watched the world of fashion come to my door through the innovative technology of EBay. While in high school I landed my first part time job at a local consignment boutique. Even though I had no retail experience at the time I convinced the owner that I could expand his business with my online savvy skills. He was so impressed that during my college years I continued working even if that meant copyrighting men’s silk ties in my dorm room.
Post college I worked for two of the top EBay luxury consignment companies in the country. From there I was hooked and knew I wanted to continue this as a serious career. I eventually left my job in retail management to pursue my dream of starting my own company.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of the many challenges that I have encountered is having a work life balance. I am a one man show for the most part which means my clients get great one on one attention from me. On the flip side this also means my time is now very valuable and limited. I have to maximize my output by understanding my clientele and product as much as I can. Sometimes I have a 24 hour schedule due to this but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having a good group of close friends and family that are understanding of this journey really helps. I truly love what I do and enjoy helping others.

My business is Fashion Hunters Luxury Resale. We are a luxury consignment service that specializes in women’s designer luxury clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. We accept all seasons all year round and come to you with our mobile pickup service. We are known for making the process as easy and profitable as possible.
I am the most proud of seeing the looks on my client’s faces when they receive their first consignment check. This is often for items they did not even think twice about sitting in their closet. There are a million reasons why people consign. From simply needing to clear out more room to downsizing and realizing they would rather sell their handbag to pay the bills. Overall it is a very rewarding experience.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the variety of neighborhoods we have in Chicago and also our public transportation. You don’t realize how lucky we are to have such a large transportation system until you travel to another city. One minute you can be steps away from Wrigley Field. The next you could be a couple stops away from happy hour with your girlfriends on Rush Street.
The least I like about the city would be how expensive the cost of living is. Especially with the increase in brick and mortar stores shuttering left and right I can see how difficult it must be for small businesses to stay afloat.
