Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Marie Schulhof.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a desire and passion to write, and to help others. When I got divorced in 2001, I began working as an infant teacher I answered many questions about my job working with infants. The most frequently asked question was “What do you teach an infant?” As a childcare teacher, I was always looking for new and different activities that I could put into my lesson plans and teach the children in my class. The parents of the children in my classes were also curious about what I teach their children and ideas for what they, too, can do at home. I realized that I could use my knowledge to write a book about teaching infants. That turned out to be Fun4Babies which I published in 2013.
During my years at Bright Horizons, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a woman’s shelter through Bright Horizon’s Foundation for Children Bright Space program. I decided that for each book sold, I wanted to donate $1.00 from each book sale to this worthy organization that was close to my heart.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been smooth since selling and promoting a book is a full time job. I have been lucky enough to work in a field that supports my passion, and have been able to continue selling books through book signings and author fairs in my community.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Author Susan Marie Schulhof story. Tell us more about the business.
I work in the Early Childhood field with a dream of writing. I never imagined that my passion could be fulfilled through my job. In addition to the non-fiction book, Fun4Babies, I also published a fiction book called Riding Waves. I am proud that I can use my dreams and passions to help others through donating to the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Wow, that is an interesting question. I am not sure if luck as much as being surrounded by caring and supportive people have influenced my success.
