Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Austin.
Steve, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been passionate about dogs so my wife and I started a dog walking business in 2004 called Raise the Woof! As much as I loved walking dogs for a living, we knew Chicago dogs deserved a chance to be outside all day so we saved and bought 18 acres of land in Indiana. We completely fenced-off six acres and turned it into a dog paradise. We still live in Lincoln Square, but take dogs all across Chicago to Dog Country for day camp offering both pick-up and drop-off at their home. We enjoy making dogs happy so this is what we do.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We had to turn a neglected piece of land into what it is now – a beautiful, spectacular dog park. It required thousands of hours of physical labor rehabilitating the land and getting dirty. But the biggest struggle is the emotional toll of not being able to see one my companions anymore.
Please tell us about Dog Country Dog Camp.
Dog Country Dog Camp is a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience for dogs. We specialize in making dog dreams come true. We are known for having awesome, well behaved dogs attend camp. We make sure only friendly dogs go on a regular, weekly, basis to ensure a stable experience. I am most proud of all the dogs I have gotten to know over the years, words can’t really describe it. I would say reliability sets us apart from others.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have gotten rid of the burs right away.
