Today we’d like to introduce you to Stan Klein.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have experienced various positions in the arts world. working for museums providing a variety of services as well as working alongside a number of artists as their assistant. along the way I started and owned a specialty frame shop for twenty years, made furniture in Maine, taught middle school, ran a public library, umpired little league through high school baseball and softball games, produced wrote and performed in a number of plays in Chicago, and now founded and run firecat projects, a gallery that has monthly exhibitions that take no commission from the artists. for the last forty years I have also produce and exhibit my own artwork as Vito DE salvo.
Please tell us about your art.
Vito DE salvo’s work examines one’s place in society and the world. dealing with interaction and all the shadings of fear, insecurity, anger, and regret in a considered humorous manner. drawn in multi layers of colored pencils, lacking a fixed defined edge and shape along with a variety of approaches to framing and presentation.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Taking the honest path to find a vision that best represents what their thoughts are and communicates those ideas in a manner that attracts others interest..
