Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacia King and Devin Ross.
Stacia and Devin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We began as Chicago’s only social, team-based karaoke league about 2 years ago. Our founder began a competitive league in Washington, D.C in 2012. When a D.C. member moved to Chicago, they missed the league and wanted to build one up here. The league has sold out past seasons, including this Winter 2018 season that officially begins January 22 until April 16, 2018
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While the Chicago league has been mostly smooth sailing, we faced some operational struggles since our inception. Specifically, it has moved host venues 3 times and we have been at Mad River Bar & Grill in Lakeview since 2017.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Second City Karaoke – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We organize and run the only social, team-based competitive karaoke league in the Midwest. Each performance week has a theme – anything from Showtunes to Duets, to 80s/90s week. Every team selects two solo performers to go head-to-head with another team’s soloists and prepares a group number for the final round. The teams/performers are voted on by those in the audience and get ranked throughout the season up until semi-finals, where they compete for 1st place.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Since we have experienced so much success with our league in Chicago, many participating members have requested that we expand the number of allowed league members. To meet the demand, we are looking forward to hopefully starting up another league in the Chicago suburbs.
