Today we’d like to introduce you to Simona Krug.
Simona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started out as a failed condominium project resulting from the recession in 2009. My husband, who is a developer, turned the building into vacation rentals in 2010. As demand and popularity grew, we evolved into a boutique hotel in 2014. We wanted to marry the concept of travelers staying in their own independent and unique living space with all of the amenities and luxuries of a hotel. We are expanding our brand to Austin and plan to open a much larger property in January 2019.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a challenging, but rewarding endeavor. When we started out, my husband and I did all of the work with the exception of the housekeeping. It was a 24/7 job, but we loved it and saw the value and enjoyment we provided to our guests. Our expansion into Austin has been a long and difficult road. We were delayed over two years due to compatibility issues, however, we are relieved to have overcome those obstacles and excited to break ground.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Guesthouse Hotel – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a boutique hotel and specialize in providing unique living residences for our travelers. Most hotel rooms average 275 square feet. Our guests have the choice of 3 bed-3 baths, 2 bed-2 baths, or 1 bed-1 bath suites. These all come with gourmet kitchens, spacious living areas, outdoor balconies with grills and patio furniture, amongst other amenities. Some of our units also have fireplaces and steam showers. Our concept enables our guests to settle into the local community and truly “live like a local,” We encourage our guests to enjoy their independence, make their own meals, and relax in their units.
We are proud that we forge strong and lasting relationships with our guests. We treat them like family. They always have a “home” with us when they visit Chicago.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are expanding and building another hotel in Austin. We plan to break ground by the end of this year and open in early 2019. We are also exploring opportunities in other markets.
