Sharon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the founder of Dr. Herbal, an all-natural herbal organic and vegan hair company that provides nourishing products focused on prevention of hair loss naturally. Born after careful observation and studying many hair product lines in the marketplace that didn’t work for my hair care needs.
I started losing my hair due to tension to my hair follicles from certain hairstyles, mostly from wearing braids, especially after traveling to West African for the first time to visit my new in-laws. I got my hair braided while in Nigeria. It was beautiful until I return home and took the micro braids down, and my hair edges came out too. I was devastated (see my before & afters).
I also notice after having my firstborn, I lost my hair again. I learned that I was not the only woman who had experienced losing hair during or after a pregnancy, or while nursing. It can be very devastating. After my second-born son came along my hair started shedding again.
After being told by a doctor, that my hair loss was from a hormonal imbalance due to breastfeeding my eldest son and from hairstyles; I decided to take matters into my own hands by figuring out a product and a regimen that worked best for me.
From using my products, I have overcome my hair loss, and alopecia. My hair grew back stronger and longer. Not only for myself, but many others as well. It’s time to get your hair back also.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been smooth. Finding venues to market, and finding funding are the biggest struggles, but my “WHY” won’t allow me to stop. My “WHY” is bigger than my cry.
People not believing in my dream, including family or supporting my dream. Finding a balance to overcome my fears and trust myself to believe in my brand enough to invest in my own company, just like I have in others.
As a new business owner, starting from scratch feels crazy. SO, I got busy networking like crazy and thinking about all the possible funding options which lead me to so many favorable opportunities and resources that I love to share with others.

Dr. Herbal’s Organic & Vegan Hair Care, an all-natural herbal & defining hair company, providing nourishment through our products for men, women and children for prevention of hair loss naturally and promoting healthy hair. We are a small independently owned business. We are not owned by a parent company. We practice 100% ingredient disclosure on our products. I am the founder and owner who came up with the brand. I make products to support strengthening others hair care, based off of my hair lost journey. I’m known for my hair oil serums and my inflammatory body butter for pain. I’m very proud that we are a company that I believed in enough to take the plunge to start and not just dream about it. The fact that it’s my story, my journey that has helped so many others to grow their hair back and we are continuing to do so as well is refreshing daily to truly appreciate what I’m blessed to do every morning.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes. Most definitely. Chicago is a great place for small businesses. There are SO many people here looking to support a GREAT/GOOD company. I see it all the time when I’m out at events. The love and support is real. Things seems to be shifting about supporting small businesses. It’s so worth it.
