Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamerea Richards.
Shamerea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised on the beautiful South Side of Chicago. I have been working in education since I was fourteen years old. I had the privilege of working in every sector of education. I have also loved arts, entertainment, and culture. Being able to see how things work in education with minority students, I saw a combination that there were many things that were not being taught to students until they became adults or even never. Social media has proved this point to be valid due to many people expressing their lack of fundamental skills or knowledge that they wish they knew as children. Since I love the idea of how vital, open, and honest comedy is, I decided to combine my two passions in life: education and entertainment. From the encouragement and drunk conversations between my friends and my brand consultant, Tye “Tiddy” Moore, I decided that The Scoop was more than needed to help begin a different avenue of change.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is a pig’s ass a turkey sandwich? Absolutely not. Being a Chicago creative and educator is a rigid road. I’m still in the process of becoming someone of importance here. The biggest challenge really has not been other people but the constant battle of self-growth and self- education. I have to allow myself to learn, fail, and grow in order to want to continuously teach others’ without sounding like a preacher. As a growing adult, I have allowed myself to make mistakes, but learn that everything happens for a reason and moving forward I am strong and God makes no mistakes. If success was easy everyone would be at their definition of success, however challenges occur to help individuals realize that everything is not and will not be easy. And with that, I don’t see obstacles as a negative thing anymore, just a test that even if I fail, I can dust myself off and try again.
Please tell us about The Scoop! With Shamerea.
I’m personally known for my personality: I’m naturally funny. I also can come off as either a know it all or someone who’s educated. But it’s just because I’m so passionate about learning. Nothing is forced with me, I try to keep everything a 100 grand. Which lead me into moving forward with the scoop. The Scoop with Shamerea is a comedic video series that informs viewers of vital information that are rarely discussed publicly. I highlight educational facts to the satirical news. The connection between the arts, education, Chicago & culture will be highlighted in each episode. What I’m most proud of is that I’m educating myself and others while entertaining them, that I’m creative while filming episodes and trailers, and that I’m 100% myself. What sets me apart from others is that there is no one like me, this the only Shamerea you’re going to find like this and I can guarantee it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was always outside! I loved being able to go to the park on 65th and Ellis or Rainbow beach and just play with so much freedom. My mother allowed my siblings and I to actually enjoy being kids. The candy store runs, double dutch competitions, water balloon fights, going to the skating rink, that was my childhood!
