Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Hogan.
Scott, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became a Teaching professional after a career of playing professional golf. I started in the west suburbs of Chicago, but then traveled to Arizona to work for one of the Top 20 professionals in the country. After a few years working with him, I returned to Chicago to open my own business in 2013. I’ve since launched my academy in Chicago’s South Side. We focus on helping golfers of all ages and abilities shoot scores they never dreamed about by teaching them about the true ways to score. Our swing knowledge is based through some of the latest science out there and we use some of the most state of the art equipment available to understand their physical attributes and what will make them swing best. We also opened up our competitive player division which is called the E.P.I.C. program which is for juniors looking to play in college and open up opportunities through golf. We’ve currently seen a 100% college scholarship rate.
I personally travel the country (and world) looking to improve our teaching philosophies and programs. I am Titleist Peformance Institute Certified, including certified in all the major technologies.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think it could ever be a smooth road starting your own business. I felt like I had a ton of knowledge and the results I was getting from my students were fantastic. But it’s always tough getting your name out, plus learning how to run a business wasn’t easy. Learning what expenses are good and which ones are not is a tough thing. Luckily, I had some help from some really awesome people from the area and around the country to help me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Scott Hogan Golf – what should we know?
We are a golf coaching company. We help golfers of all skills and abilities get into golf and reach their goals for the game. We are known for getting juniors to the next level but also helping adults learn to shoot 10 shots or more lower than their scores. We actually guarantee it. I’m most proud that through all of this, we are able to help people enjoy their lives more through the game. Whether it’s a junior that reaches their goal, or an adult that can get outside and get some exercises more through golf. Or a group of buddies who can get together on trips to play golf and enjoy each other’s companies, that truly our goal and I am proud that we have done that successfully to date.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Mike Malaska was a huge mentor, but also Will Robins from Sacramento has been a huge mentor and someone I can call whenever if I have a question. My first client in Chicago Ed Levy, from Edventure Promotions has become a friend and someone who has helped me understand how to run a business. Also my parents and fiancé have been instrumental in supporting me and allowing me to take risks. Plus I’ve had plenty of friends who allowed me to help them and then were willing to spread the word!
