Meet SB Gamble

Today we’d like to introduce you to SB Gamble.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m a storyteller out of necessity. There is something undeniably powerful about a story. It’s the closest a person can get to reading another person’s mind, a way to travel into another person’s life. Storytelling can connect people in ways like nothing else. We quickly forget math equations, but we never forget a good story. And storytelling was truly something I was drawn to at an early age. I’ve used many mediums to transport my audience: film, stage, and novels namely. When I write, I reach out to other people and try to make them feel something that they may not feel from their own experiences. I try to inspire laughter, sorrow or hope. Growing up with single mother and younger sister to protect, I used storytelling to inspire those emotions when times were at their worst. And when I realized I could elicit those feelings, how could I give up chasing the impact that I had on those around me?

Please tell us about your art.
My art has always been about the interconnectedness between people. I frequently explore these connections through the relationships of my characters. When you look around the world, no one person exists in bubble. The things we do to ourselves, and to those around us, can impact people in unforeseen ways. That’s the beauty and the terror of life. It’s so fundamental, but it’s also incredibly complex. I could write an endless amount of books and screenplays simply based on the tension that I see existing between people on a normal commute.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Any artists needs to resign themselves to failure, but also be open to feedback. You only know what you know. If someone is willing to offer help and give guidance, take it. You also need patience and routine. Being an artist in any medium is a marathon. You can only persevere with persistence and commitment. Those who happen to be successful are the artists who keep up the good fight and listen to good advice when it is offered.
