Meet Sasha Faye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Faye.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Moscow. When I was 5 my parents asked me what classes/after-school activities I would be interested in. “I wanna dance”, was my answer and the beggining of the Big Adventure!

Here are some brief stats:
5 crazy years of ballet training (ha, I am sure you’ve heard some things about Russian ballet teachers 🙂 )
3 years of jazz, latin, ballroom, hip-hop training at University
3 of the most fullfilling years as a lead dancer at a contemporary dance company
3 years of traveling around the world, saying «YES» to every possible adventure while being a part of production shows on cruise ships

Today, it’s almost been 3 years since I moved to Chicago (I really have a thing for 3’s don’t I?) and the Big Adventure is only getting more and more fun! I am a professionally trained dancer, an agency represented model and a videographer.

Please tell us about your art.

I dance, I model, I make emotion-driven videos.Dance is the foundation for all of the artwork I create. It’s pretty obvious how dance can be a segway to modeling. But filming? What’s the connection there? Movement + emotion + personality = dance. The same formula works with videography! I am a firm beliver that making people feel something is the secret sauce to any art.

It’s not always the understanding of art that feeds your soul. Art isn’t always supposed to be pretty or understood, it’s supposed to make you feel something. «If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint» Edward Hopper.
With that being said, no matter what role I am in, in front or behind the camera, my main goal is to tell a story. And one thing that I absolutely love about dance and modeling is that I get to try on so many… (you thought I was gonna say clothes, didn’t you?) characters. Characters that guide my video production vision.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I can’t speak for all artists; however, my biggest challenge is finding new outlets of inspiration. Getting and staying inspired can be a struggle. Attending trendy exibitions or reading inspirational books isn’t always the answer (don’t get me wrong, I love both of those things). Sometimes staying inspired means pushing your own buttons, exploring your inner demons, taking risks or just riding the L. It’s all part of the Big Adventure 😉

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Catch me if you can 😉 I share a lot of my work on social media. I love connecting with like-minded creatives. Let’s be friends 🙂
