Today we’d like to introduce you to Saba and Imran Osmani.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Saba and Imran. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
VivirMed is a clinic my brother and I created to be able to better serve our community. To be able to give back to the community is what we had aspired the moment we decided to go into the field of medicine. Even though we hadn’t faced similar kinds of hardships my parents and grandparents faced as a result of being born and raised in the United States, we can confidently say we inherited the same kind of compassion and commitment to be good doctors. We are true to our roots and do understand the hardship of immigrants as well.
My brother and I were born and raised in the United States. We decided to go overseas to pursue our dream of medicine and with this decision, we gained not only knowledge but appreciation for what resources we have in the United States and how we could better serve the unfortunate and our community. Our foreign training in Dubai gave us the opportunity to work with people of all socioeconomic statuses, various age groups, and people of all ethnicities and backgrounds.
Our future goal is to practice in a clinical setup where we would not have to choose between our passion for science and our love for people. So after residency, we both acquired our first jobs but shortly after realized that this is what we were truly meant to do.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles on the road to becoming a doctor. Whether medical school or getting through the days of residency but what kept us going was knowing once we were able to practice we would be able to do things our way and be able to serve our community. We recently opened the doors to our own practice and now are able to provide care to patients in need.
We see patients of all ages and have many families come in including parents, children, grandparents, and even mutual friends. This makes practicing medicine even more fulfilling. Struggles are always involved with insurance and patients not being able to afford insurance but our goal is to provide the best care we can for patients that aren’t able to afford care and to get them back to living a healthy, happy life.
Please tell us about VIvirMed.
VivirMed is a medical clinic run by my brother and I, Dr. Imran and Dr. Saba Osmani. We have always shared similar views on how we wanted to practice medicine. Dr. Imran Osmani specializes in internal medicine and Dr. Saba Osmani in family medicine. With us both being boards specialized in our specific specialties we are able to provide care for patients of all ages from newborns to geriatric patients. We are able to provide pediatric care, women’s health, geriatrics, sports medicine, and physicals as well.
We are proud to say we are really a family owned business. Having a male and female doctor allows us to serve patient preference. We do have in-house lab as well and phlebotomists that provide excellent care. Both of us getting our training in another country and then practicing in the US has given us a wide perspective on being able to deal with a variety of patients and understanding their struggles as well. We both also are fluent in Hindi and Urdu. What sets us apart from others is that we do not restrict care based on having insurance or even specific insurance types which may make it difficult to obtain care from other clinics.
We love seeing the entire family as patients because this is something that holds value to us. Both of us are extremely close to our family and even though we both are married now over the last few years we still continue to keep the daily bond strong which is why we work so great together.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of our favorite memories from our childhood had to be the time spent with our grandparents. We were fortunate that both our grandmothers were able to live with us while growing up. This instilled a lot of qualities in us that I don’t think we would have had if this weren’t the case. We learned of the hardships they went through and just simple stories or how difficult it was transitioning from India, their home country to a foreign land.
Because of our grandparents, we were able to preserve our culture while living in the US and also take advantages of the opportunities which were available to us here compared to other places. We were able to learn our language as well while spending days with them and practicing and this gives us an advantage because we are able to communicate with patients who may not be able to speak in English.
