Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Gossett.
Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became a REALTOR in 2007 as a result several key events: Had just bought a condo in Chicago using a REALTOR that was recommended to me by a friend, had just sold a home the previous year with a REALTOR that was referred to me by a friend, was not liking a job I had just taken in 2006, had always wanted to work for myself, and had just read Freakonomics. I recognized that the theories outlined in the book, then supported in Outliers in 2008 of course, were likely true based on my own experiences in the previous 12 months. It was crystal clear to me at that time that residential real estate was the business for me because most people in the business weren’t doing it well, or right, or whatever label you want to apply to the state of affairs at that time.
Over the last eleven years, I have been developing a business and have maintained the client’s financial, social, and familial benefits of real estate ownership as my focal point.
In 2010 my wife joined me to run the operations of my business and from there we have added people to our team, The Pinnacle Team, to better handle the volume of our business and improve the level of service we provide. In 2014, we hired a nationally recognized business coach. Everything we do is about getting better, being better, and giving people the representation they deserve in the world of buying and selling residential real estate. We currently have a total of 7 people on our team and we will continue to invest, hire, train and develop our team so we can get better at what we do.
Our clients get the best results by every measurable metric and our marketing challenge is spreading that message to as many people in Chicago as possible.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Learning this business, the market, and developing my team and myself has been filled with mistakes and failures and I have learned from every single one. I tell my team all of the time, if you aren’t failing, you aren’t getting better. That being said, I am hard on myself so what I see as a failure is often a better version of what my competition sees as their successes.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Pinnacle Team @properties story. Tell us more about the business.
Buying a home is a big decision for most people. In one transaction, they are likely spending more money and taking on more debt than they ever have to date. I believe that the success of a home purchase is measured by the social, familial, and financial impact owning a home has one’s life.
Our clients stay in their homes longer and make more money on their home than any agent I have seen in our marketplace. I challenge my clients every step of the way so they know exactly what they are getting into.
When selling that home, we advise and execute a marketing system that generates the shortest market time and highest sale price as compared to other listings in the marketplace. The reviews my clients post on my website, Zillow, and Yelp speak for my business and me.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think we are going to see less people doing more of the business in our market because the few are going to have an offering the rest won’t be able to match. Real Estate is no longer a hobby business. People lost their shirts during the meltdown and don’t want to see it happen again. They want an advisor they can trust and that shows a track record of success. That is what I do.
