Today we’d like to introduce you to Robby Glick.
Robby, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Reggies spawned from the record store, Record Breakers…..Breakers started in 1988 and quickly became one of the best indie record stores in the Chicagoland area.
In 1996, we started hosting free shows in the store and this grew in popularity over the years.
We realized it would be a good idea to have the record store alongside a music venue.
So in 2007, Reggies opened and breakers moved inside Reggies on the 2nd floor.
Reggies has 2 stages of live music and a rooftop beer garden, as well as 3 rock buses that take folks to sporting events and concerts around town!!
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth all in all….getting folks to recognize Reggies as a viable music venue on the near south side, took time….and the normal getting the word out for a new biz.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Reggies story. Tell us more about the business.
Reggies has 50 bands roll thru every week….that’s our bread and butter….putting on shows.
We also have great comfort food…award winning wings and great burgers, mac n cheese etc.
And a staff of music lovers who for the most part don’t just go thru the motions….they really care, and want Reggies to do well.
Our record store, rock buses and dysfunctional family staff all set us apart from the norm
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Well technology is always changing, but you really can’t replicate the energy of live music….so I think as long as we book good live acts, Reggies will thrive!!
