Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Riley.
Richard collected train artifacts for many years before we ran across a 1914 New York Central freight station for sale in Chesterton, Indiana. Richard knew immediately he had to have it. Chesterton is a nice small town that is close to great destinations. We are under an hour to Chicago and a few miles from Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Park. We originally thought of making the depot into a weekend home and decorate with all of the train things we had. We then found out that the town was wanting to build up business development in the downtown and really wanted businesses. So after brainstorming with family members at a Sunday dinner we came up with the idea of a railroad theme B&B. So that was over six years ago.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s actually been smooth and fun as well. We meet so many people and have even become friends with some.
Riley’s Railhouse Bed and Breakfast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a B&B and we also rent out our main lounge space for events. We specialize in train artifacts and are located on a busy railroad line for train watchers.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Providing a pleasant stay for our guests.
