Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyna Hoerdeman.
Reyna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been pretty active in life, the type of child you had to chase in order to put down for a nap (now, I will gladly accept a nap if it is given to me). Growing up, I was a gymnast, played soccer, cheerleader, and overall smartass. The smartass part stuck with me as I evolved and started taking different classes: boxing, barre, yoga, and once I tried yoga sculpt I was hooked. Yoga sculpt was my gateway and first fitness certification almost 7 years ago. Now, multiple fitness and yoga certifications later I can’t stop. My thirst for knowledge and to teach is pretty insatiable.
Once I started teaching barre, I was asked to sub at Studio Fit Chicago for a friend, and the rest is history… well sort of. The owners knew my background: owning a Social Media Marketing company (Queen B Media) and from a fitness perspective, so they told me they were interested in selling the business, and asked if I was interested in purchasing it. I then went to my current co-owner, Josh Meyer, and literally asked him: Hey Josh, you want to buy a fitness studio? Haha We’re both in the digital marketing sphere (he owns a digital marketing company: GotIt Digital), and we have helped fitness studios achieve their goals throughout the years. Plus, adding in my fitness background, Josh and I thought why not take the leap…. so now, we are the current owners of Studio Fit Chicago.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I want to meet any entrepreneur who says it’s a smooth road, and drink some of the magical potion they had prescribed to them. The struggle is real (that’s the saying, correct… haha!). When we took over the business December 1st, 2017 Studio Fit Chicago was a ghost town. There were tumbleweeds rolling through the studios, let me tell you: they do not match Studio Fit’s decor.
Since day one, we put processes in place to grow and evolve Studio Fit’s women’s only dance, fitness, and yoga studio. Josh and I hired instructors, added classes, formats, workshops, built a new website with professional photos of the instructors, SEO, social media, gave the studio an interior facelift and much more.
We have daily challenges and they are an incremental part of our growth. This is what we sign up for as business owners, entrepreneurs, and masters of our own failures and successes.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Studio Fit Chicago story. Tell us more about the business.
Studio Fit Chicago is Chicago’s first and only all-female fitness studio, located in the heart of Lincoln Park. Run by women dedicated to helping you achieve your fitness goals, Studio Fit empowers women to feel confident, comfortable and find their perfect exercise fit.
A variety of modern exercise dance classes and workshops, with yoga, barre, women’s boxing and boot camp all under one roof make Studio Fit Chicago truly unique. Enjoy a single class or stay for a double with cardio dance and a yoga cool down for total mind/body satisfaction.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I definitely think with Studio Fit Chicago we were in the right place at the right time. I’ve had a life plan to open a fitness studio eventually, yet when this opportunity came across, Josh and I had had to jump on it. I’m not sure that’s luck as much as things aligning for whatever reasons.
I don’t believe life is about being ready for things. Life throws us curve balls all the time and offers up opportunities. Therefore, it’s opening yourself up to what comes your way and figuring out if it’s something you truly want. Success stems from failure, so taking that leap will always teach us something we need to learn.
