Meet Renee McGinnis of McGinnis Studio in River West and River North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee McGinnis.

Renee is a Chicago based postmodern painter. She was born on a farm in central Illinois in 1962 and attended Illinois Wesleyan University, earning a BFA in 1984. She continued with graduate work in sociology and anthropology at the University of Chicago.

Her work has been exhibited widely in Chicago and has also been shown in Germany, Australia, New York City, Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Md. Her curatorial debut occurred when she launched “The Chicago Solution Show 2003′′ with the late Ed Paschke as juror, then again in 2005 with Art Institute of Chicago Curator of Contemporary Collections- James Rondeau. She received a *National Emmy Award for Design in Television 1991.

In 2002, she starred as herself in the Iranian-American film “American Burqa” screened at The Gene Siskel Film Center, Chicago, Illinois She currently shows at ZG Gallery in Chicago.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not always a smooth road but I had plenty to eat and good housing. I worked as a broadcast designer for 26 years at night to support myself and my art during the day. The rejection letters are disappointing but should never stop you. I have had my share but if you have something to say you will be able to find the conviction to continue.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with McGinnis Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a fine artist. I make postmodern realistic landscapes that lay bare the soul and tendencies of man and the fragile systems that sustain us.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The Architecture, beaches, people, museums are fabulous. The crime and traffic are not so.
