Meet Renee Kimberling, RN, ND of Healing Arts Center in Southeast Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Kimberling, RN, ND.

Renee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I worked in a traditional medical environment for 20 years before I began getting involved in alternative medical therapies. I was getting disillusioned with ineffective patient outcomes – people just weren’t getting better and they had more and more pills pushed on them. They were taking pills to combat the side effects of the other pills they were on! Especially those who were chronically ill – traditional medicine just wasn’t helping their situations. I began looking into other avenues of wellness and started discovering all that alternative medical practices had to offer.

These therapies had been around for hundreds of years and were very effective in helping people regain health and vigor – usually at a much less expensive cost and with little to no side effects. I knew I had to focus my attention here, so I began taking coursework in many different areas and decided to specialize in allergy elimination. I like to tell my clients that I don’t treat allergies, I eliminate them through the process of NAET, or Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique. The NAET process is nothing new – it has been around for about 40 years and there are now NAET practitioners worldwide. It is a combination of Chinese medicine, chiropractic, and allopathic medicine. It is effective in eliminating all sorts of allergies – foods, environmentals, animals, and even anaphylactic cases such as peanut allergies. It has saved thousands of lives and millions of people can now lead more normal lives because their allergies have been permanently eliminated, without the use of pharmaceuticals.

As my practice rapidly grew, I began to develop a dream of founding a clinic where people could choose from many different alternative methods of health care under one roof. Qualified and dedicated non-traditional practitioners are sometimes hard to come by, and people usually have to travel for miles to find them. With that dream, Healing Arts Center was born. Now the clinic has developed into a full-service alternative medical center with nine different practitioners, each with a different specialty. We treat all age groups and all types of conditions, and we work as a team to achieve the best possible results for our clients. We also treat many cases of chronic Lyme disease, which is something that traditional medicine does not always recognize as an actual problem. We work hard to establish a friendly community atmosphere in our clinic, and we are usually rewarded with very positive outcomes. Most of our clients have visited an average of 8 to 12 traditional doctors before discovering our clinic. And they should be able to feel the difference here right when they walk in the door!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Establishing new concepts is always a challenge, and a non-traditional health clinic in Northwest Indiana was definitely a new concept! There was a lot of community education involved, and we still do that today. Letting people know they have real options in health care choices is something that takes time and patience to explain. We offer so many different non-invasive and effective treatment options now and many people have never had exposure to them before, such as low level laser therapy, neurofeedback, or Rife technology. So we work hard to help people recognize what may work best for them. We also try to help people regain control over their own health care. With traditional medicine, people are not often given a variety of choices. It’s, “here, try this prescription and come back in 3 months.” We are more of a hands-on approach and we listen to what people are telling us in respect to their needs and concerns. We also offer free half-hour consults with any of our practitioners just so people can be more educated on their treatment options.

Another struggle was being recognized by the traditional medical community. None of our practitioners are opposed to traditional medicine, we just feel there is a time and a place for it. There is also a time and a place for non-traditional approaches, and sometimes traditional doctors dismiss what we offer as non-scientific based and therefore not effective. In actuality, non-traditional approaches to care have many well-established studies to back up their effectiveness. We can stand up under scrutiny, and our clients are our best advocates.

Please tell us about Healing Arts Center.
We are recognized for our focus on each individual client and their specific needs. Nowhere else would you find such a diverse team working for the good of one person. We also empower our clients to take charge of their own health care. We provide them with research tools to better understand their own conditions and suggest a variety of ways they can improve their own health status.

The largest specialty area of our clinic is the NAET allergy elimination therapy. Many people think of allergies just as itchy, watery eyes, hives, or stuffy noses every spring and fall – but actually allergies are much more far-reaching than that. An allergy is anything in the body that is causing an abnormal response. It can be foods, environmental allergies, medications, animals – even emotions. Those allergies are like splinters in the body, and their effects accumulate through the years until finally they result in dis-ease. For example, men with lower backache are frequently allergic to their leather belts, or if they have sciatica they may be allergic to that wallet they carry in their pocket. People who wake up with stuffy noses or headaches may be allergic to their pillow. Women with breast cancer are frequently allergic to their deodorant or the elastic in their bras – or even unreleased emotions. The list goes on and on. About 85% or more of the chronic conditions people suffer with have allergies at their root, and about 15 to 25 allergies are common for most people. With NAET, once your allergies are eliminated at 100%, it is permanent. So you may never suffer with back pain or any other chronic symptoms again! NAET changes lives – plain and simple. We are proud to offer it at our clinic.

We have the determination never to give up! We deal with so many clients who have been to so many different health practitioners without success. It is vital for us to maintain that can-do attitude in trying to help them regain an optimal state of health and well-being. We are also very open-minded, which is also vital in our line of work. As non-traditional therapies gain more and more recognition in the medical community, new treatment options are being developed all the time. We are constantly expanding our services to keep pace with new alternative fields. Our clients are constantly benefiting.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc? 
I see the alternative health field growing tremendously in the next decade. Actually one thing that bothers me about the current medical environment is that when people come to our clinic they are very disillusioned about traditional medicine. They say things like, “I will never go to another traditional doctor.” They have had very harsh experiences and they simply don’t want to go back. That’s good for us, but again there is a time and place for everything. I want traditional medicine to be the best it can be, just as I want non-traditional therapies to be recognized for all they have to offer.
