So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an avid league tennis player. I also love fashion and style. When I started in 2004, there were no fashionable tennis lines. At that time, the market offered basic athletic wear. I wanted to wear short frilly skirts and tennis dresses on and off the court. So, I created my first collection – color blocked tanks and skirts; pleated and mesh overlay skirts; pants and jackets that can be worn with sneakers or boots; white dresses and little black dresses, to name a few! Peachy Tan emerged as a fresh, new and trendsetting tennis apparel company offering classic white dresses to wear with tennis shoes and flirty black dresses to show off Jimmy Choo’s!
Today, our collections are exclusive and popular among country club ladies. Peachy Tan styles are known for its distinct use of mesh layers, pleats, ruffles, and slits. Color blocking and touches of colorful prints in every collection let you coordinate from one season to the next. Our contemporary designs and fabrication are versatile and innovative so you can wear our apparel beyond tennis. We are an activewear company focused on comfort, function, and style. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new business is never smooth and easy. I did not have any prior apparel design and manufacturing experience. I practiced as an engineer and consultant for all of my professional life before starting this business. I learned each step of the apparel business through hard work and persistence. I made many mistakes along the way and I learned from each of these mistakes to have a better product. The biggest struggle has been the manufacturing. Costs associated with new and emerging lines were high. Developing trustworthy relationships with suppliers was critical to our success. These are the same daily challenges we face. But, our experience over the years enables me to make better business decisions with every challenge faced.

Founded in 2004, Peachy Tan combines a passion for fashion with the love for tennis. First introduced at Chicago North Shore tennis and country clubs, its original and refreshing approach to style, fabrication and attention to detail were the beginning of the evolution of its tennis outfits to go from country club courtside to lifestyle fashion pieces. Cute and flirty sports tops paired with colorful skirts and board shorts are often worn with jeans; ultra-feminine tennis dresses can be dressed up in heels; ruffled jackets and slim pants complete the whole look and travel often with our customers.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Peachy Tan was at 2 Tennis Grand Slam events in 2009. We were the clothing sponsor for Aleksandra Wozniak (Canada), Top 20 Professional then, at the 2009 French Open and 2009 Wimbledon Championships. It was a great honor to be part of these Grand Slam events.
