Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Rosati Jr.
Philip, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are a Team and Institutional Supplier. We specialize in custom uniforms, apparel, and equipment. We have been in business since 1954, I am a 3rd generation in our company. We have been able to survive in an ever-changing market based on our loyal dedicated employees & because we are a vertical production system. LSS can control our own destiny when getting apparel to the market. We have sales representatives calling on the City of Chicago, surrounding suburbs, and NW Indiana. We have recently expanded to Central and Southern Indiana.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With being in business for 63 years we have absolutely run into challenges. Our industry changes every 18 months & we have to be ahead of the curve in order to keep our business alive. The financial crisis of the State of Illinois effects our business, but we have had to branch into different areas in order to replace the always shrinking school budgets. There would be way too many stories to tell about obstacles and challenges we have faced over the years, but the one thing that has always pulled us through it is strong and loyal employees. Without the dedicated staff that we have our challenges would become bigger obstacles, with them we are able to maneuver around any challenge.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lansing Sport Shop – what should we know?
Our company supplies to local high schools, travel teams, colleges, park & recs. We specialize in apparel decoration, we work with some of the biggest apparel companies in the U.S. We do all of our Printing, Embroidery, Tackle Twill, Transfers all in-house. I am most proud of our company for being in our 3rd generation and in business for over 60 years. There have been a lot of dedicated people that have made that possible. With the consolidation and acquisitions of smaller mom and pop companies, it makes us have to work that much harder and smarter than our national competition. Our people and our service set us apart from others, plus the craftsmanship that we pride ourselves on in our work will continue to rise & raise the standard to what our competition has to live up to.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that being able to control our own destiny is why we’ve had the success we’ve had, along with our ability to adjust on the fly and change our sails depending on the wind.
