Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter and Isac Malmgren.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Peter and Isac. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this business a year and a half ago. I have always had an interest in wood and woodworking, especially reclaimed wood. One day someone on Facebook sent me a photo from Pinterest of a headboard and they ask if I could make it, I thought this seems pretty easy so I gave it a shot. It turned out beautifully and she loved it, Then something happened that I didn’t expect, the person I made the headboard for started sharing what I had made across social media and many of her friends, and others who saw it on social media began contacting me with requests. My business has been growing well ever since, and I have expanded to doors, tables, and live edge commissions. We go by the name “The Barn Door” on Facebook and have over 1000 followers currently.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the toughest struggles has been figuring out how to do new projects that I’ve never done before, but fortunately I have teamed up with a woodworking shop with more than 30 years in the business that I use for all of my advanced projects that involve planning and joining. My head machinist is a true expert in woodcraft and he helps me realize my vision. One great thing has been that I have never had to worry about work, between repeat customers, and new people contacting me on Facebook I have to worry about juggling requests and backlogs these days as I try to expand.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pete’s Barn Door – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We make custom wood projects out of reclaimed and live edge wood. We specialize in tables, doors, bar-tops and other furniture. We also do custom home remodeling, kitchens and bathrooms. We are exceptionally proud of our choices of the best quality hardwoods and reclaimed wood for my projects. Many out there just pick any reclaimed wood for projects and that leads to problems down the road, or they do not treat them correctly, so they curve up afterward making the tables warp and uneven. My special techniques make sure that doesn’t happen.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’re planning on expanding our team so we can handle more commercial jobs and home rehabs. We’re very excited to try new tables and designs.
