Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Rosendahl.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Pete. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story started just a few years ago… 12 years to be exact. I was introduced to Jeff Doyle, aka DJ SLY!! I met this DJ through a very good friend. Once I seen Jeff DJ, & how he mixed. I knew right then and there… That’s what I want to do!! I immediately went out and purchased my first mixer, speakers, & lights. I started practicing, and started doing free shows & gigs. I know… I know… free gigs. I loved DJING so much. It was never about the money I could make.
I was always asked at every party to supply the music & be in control of what everyone listened to. It came natural to me to read a crowd, and understand what people wanted to hear. I think playing a variety & not getting stuck in any specific genre is what made me so good at it. I played what they wanted to hear. I started a company with my brother John that was successful, yet I wanted to do even more. I loved weddings so much. I couldn’t vision my life doing anything else. Every day I get to work with the happiest people in the world.
Two years ago, I started my own company called PETE’S MY DJ. I am so excited to say in my first year I did over 100 weddings & my second year I am doing even more. I have some of the best reviews ever, and a huge support system of brides & grooms. I pride myself on having the most fun possible at any wedding. Seeing the reaction from the guests dancing & having the best times ever is what keeps me in business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I know I made it sound easy, but it was a road I went down that didn’t have an option of failing. I had to succeed or my family would be on the street. It was super scary starting my DJ company. It was hard to get financial support. Trying to get a loan… good luck!! I started renting from a company that had high end equipment, and thanks to them giving me that option. I was able to take on weddings knowing I had the best equipment on the market. Today I now own the best of the best. PIONEER mixers, YORKVILLE speakers, & touring grade subs by EAW & JBL.
Please tell us about Pete’s My DJ.
I specialize in weddings mostly, but still do many other types of events like anniversaries, birthday parties, corporate events, schools etc. NO GIG TO BIG, NO BALL TO SMALL!!
I’m well known for being transparent & honest with what’s included in my package. EVERYTHING is included with no hidden fees EVER! It’s super stressful these days to find that. I want to make sure your day is perfect, & worrying about if something is included won’t happen with me. Weddings are expensive, and therefore have to be right on. I specialize in creating a timeline & organizing your day as well to keep things moving and fun.
I think I’m most proud of my company not because of the fast growing business it has become, but all the help I have been able to give back to the community. I have donated services, donated time, volunteered, and so much more. The best part is training so many other DJs, and helping them grow to be successful just like PETE’S MY DJ.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My love for music I believe came from my dad. He had a Mazda RX7 & used to drive us kids around while laying down in the back window blasting out to some of the best music ever!!
