Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Horvath.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2005, I bought a home in Chicago. I called my Dad asking for help with the down payment, but he kindly refused. However, when I finally got the place, he ended up giving me a pickup truck as a housewarming gift. Little did I know that having a pickup would come with popularity! From being asked to help move Craiglist purchases to aid with Ikea trips, the need for moving help more or less presented itself. My best buddy and I used the opportunity as a means of making extra cash and getting a solid workout. Over time, we’ve grown but still bring positive attitudes, customer care and hustle to every job we do.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Scaling a moving company is very linear: it takes more trucks and more bodies, which isn’t exactly the easiest thing to manage. As we near 80 employees, we’ve found that there has to be an accountability and ownership system for everything. From taking care of the fleet to restocking the warehouse to making sure the guys are ready to go, it can be a daunting. I joke that I run an adult daycare, but there’s a lot of truth to it. We do our best to play as hard as we work.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Move-tastic! – what should we know?
My primary role is to drum up sales, mainly on the commercial side. Besides this, I’m the resident cheerleader (pompoms are optional). I run our monthly meetings, present awards and help share the vision of where we want to be. I’m most proud of working with an amazing group of people that truly care about our company. We all celebrate the wins together and collectively learn from the losses.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I try my best not to take anything too seriously as making someone smile can make a bad or stressful day turn good. We keep humor in our culture from our website to our trucks to our office. If you don’t like fun, we may not get along.

- Travel is based on mileage – 0-10 miles is .5 hrs of labor
