Thanks for sharing your story with us Perry. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been an Illinois private investigator since 1981. In 2001, during the course of my career, I began to specialize in Electronic Countermeasures and installation of covert cameras. I purchased the U-Spy Store from a PI in Orlando. The business was an old website and a single store ran by the owner’s son. I opened a second store in Orlando and 2 more in Chicago. The Orlando stores became too difficult to manage long distance and I closed them in 2013. The Chicago operation has thrived and became more focused in the area of CCTV a.k.a. security cameras. We have many high profile clients including government, police, business and private clientele. We specialize in multi camera systems and setup the remote access for the customers to view the cameras remotely. In 2017, I became an alarm contractor getting my license from the State of Illinois. We are now installing alarm systems including access control, burglar and fire alarms.
Has it been a smooth road?
Anyone who runs or ran a business knows it is never easy. Financial, personnel and logistic challenges have been the major challenges. Customers that don’t pay, employees who don’t always do the right thing and landlords that decide they want to tear down the building you rent in order to build something else. We have experienced it all over the years.

Our company offers professional video security and alarm installation and repair. We specialize in everything from routine to specialized custom installations. Our technicians are very talented and able to offer installations that other companies cannot. We were hired by Lincoln Park Zoo for their CCTV cameras as we offered wireless solutions for their high security needs. We are able to come up with creative solutions and offer a wide range of manufacturers with excellent warranties and support.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
My proudest moment, was being able to come up with a creative solution to capture video of a health club thief who was stealing from lockers. He was an employee and being a locker room, he was difficult to catch as there are no cameras allowed to be installed in these areas. I was able to rig a gym bag with a camera in such a way as to only capture the culprit and not the locker room itself. The police were able to prosecute him and he was terminated from his position.
