Meet Penny Pinch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny Pinch.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a Chicago street artist primarily working with posters and stickers. I have been doing street art since 2012 and have never spent any money doing art. All of my materials are found, traded for, or given to me. I think that money is overrated, that art should be affordable, and that we produce too much waste.

Please tell us about your art.
I primarily use stickers and wheat paste posters. Most of my art work consists of my character, which is a sad man in a costume. My character usually says something sarcastic or something that could have a double meaning. My character represents myself and is supposed to be funny and comforting.

For pieces that I put up on the street, I do not have a specific message or intent because once they are up on the street they do not belong to me. They are for the people and elements to interact with and interpret.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Use social media as a tool to meet other artists, not as a gauge for your self-worth. Go to other gallery openings. Be kind.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
On the North Side of Chicago. At Galerie F.

Support me by buying and supporting all local art! Hire local artists to do local jobs!
