Today we’d like to introduce you to Patti Carpenter.
Patti, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Pink Taxi in 2010, prior to founding Cabs for the Cure, a 501 c 3 Non Profit Corporation.
We saw the need for free transportation to underprivileged woman traveling to and from medical treatments.
Cabs for the Cure’s “Wheels to Wellness” program provides this needed financial assistance to the needy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with any charity, getting donations is challenging with so many great organizations “chasing the same money”.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cabs for the Cure story. Tell us more about the business.
Cabs for the Cure is a socially responsible company with a creative board of directors. We provide financial assistance for transportation for those in need towards non-emergency ground transportation benefitting the financially disadvantaged. Our income is derived from cooperate donations, fund raising events and individual contributions. We use this money to fund debit cards which are issued to qualified applicants.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been lucky enough to have survived cancer. This was initiative to start this endeavor. My prior experience in transportation provided necessary background to open Pink Taxi, a cab company that donates profits to Breast Cancer Awareness.
