Meet Patryk Ruta of Compete Athletics in Arlington Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patryk Ruta.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Patryk. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always an athlete since I was a little kid. Being active and exercising were always in my life. I decided to make it my career and decided to study Exercise and Sports Studies at Robert Morris University. While finishing up my college soccer career and getting a degree I started to look into being a personal trainer/strength and conditioning coach.

Once I graduated college I hit the pavement and knocked on all the doors hoping to get a job in any gym that would hire me. I finally landed a job at a corporate gym. There I found my passion and love for the fitness industry while learning how business works. I got to work with some amazing clients that thru hard work achieved the results they wanted. After about 15 months I decided it was time to go on my own and open up my own business Compete Athletics.

Almost all my clients from the previous gym followed me and are working with my continuously on bettering themselves and achieving results. I work with all sorts of clients and athletes. I work with stay at home moms, businessman and businesswomen, school teachers, business owners etc. I also get the chance to work with the kids who are working on their sports performance. Kids playing sports like hockey, soccer, track, basketball, football etc.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been all over the place. Many times it was smooth and times where things were a little tough. After leaving the corporate gym I didn’t know where I was going to train my clients. Finally found my spot and the adjustment, in the beginning, was challenging but thru a lot of hard work and help from my awesome clients/athletes I was able to get Compete Athletics started.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Compete Athletics story. Tell us more about the business.
Compete Athletics focusing on personal training for the everyday person and sports performance for kids/athletes who are working on developing and improving their athleticism. My style of training for personal training is to help and guide you to reach your goals while making sure you stay as functional as possible. Living a healthy and pain-free lifestyle. Meanwhile educating each person to reach their best. For the kids/athletes, it is making sure they learn the proper technique and proper training to best help them reach their full potential in the respective sport and develop as young adults.

At Compete Athletics we are proud of the people that walk in thru the door and make the choice to live a healthy lifestyle. Seeing people achieve their goals is something special, knowing how much work they put into it. What sets my company and myself apart is the personal connection each person receives. It is not just about the workout but finding out how each person’s day is going, how their family is doing etc. Treating each person, not like a client or a number but a human being that brings value to my company and myself.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck plays a huge part in any persons life and their business. I have seen some good luck from the business side whether it is meeting a new client by just introducing myself and having a casual conversation. Getting new clients from posting a video online and someone sharing that video. Thru good work and treating people the right way I believe luck will always find you.
