Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Voorhies.
Pam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This little business began as a way for me to give personalized Christmas gifts to my family. I started in a small bedroom in our home and after 4 different growing moves, we’ve recently purchased a building on the square of our hometown that will house weekend pop-up sales and my studio/woodshop space.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I so very thankful, but honestly this whole business was never my plan, so I never had goals. The momentum has been very organic and smooth.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Little Red Porch – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a sign maker. I design and hand paint every sign that Little Red Porch sells. All the signs are framed with reclaimed lumber from buildings that my husband and I take down. It’s a process and super time consuming, but I feel like the extra effort sets me apart from other sign makers.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are so excited about the new building we have purchased in downtown Bedford, IN. The current plans are to be open one weekend each month and invite other makers I’ve met in this crazy market world I live in.
We are anticipating the first pop-up market for the month of April. This allows me to move all the painting and work away from my home and set some better work boundaries.
