Meet Nina Andorf of www.NinaAndorf.com in North Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Andorf.

Nina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always wanted more. I always had a plan. When that plan didn’t work out, I had a plan B.

Sometimes a plan C and D. I carefully mapped out my schooling and how I was going to get from one destination to the next all while working several jobs to make ends meet. I worked and worked, with one final goal in mind. I wanted to be a graphic designer in the beautiful city of Chicago.

That was my “more”. But when I easily got to that level, I realized that my “more” was more complicated and much harder. I wanted to be a great designer, I wanted to be multi-disciplinary, meet and learn from other great minds, contribute to something bigger than myself. It wasn’t about me anymore, it was about the world around me. If I wanted to understand how to add to the design landscape and add to the bigger picture, I had to start my own business with my own initiatives.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s not been easy and I don’t think it ever will be. When you’re a designer by trade and artist at heart, you have to find the right balance between logic and emotion. I feel that so many designers can say they feel the same tug-o-war happening within in, but when you add a layer of business onto that, it’s no less sobering than anything in the non-creative world.

You have to stay level-headed in terms of delivering a product or service that you want to stand behind while dealing with a world of personalities. It’s all about finding the right balance when it comes to my work. Whether that balance is found in the right design layout or in a client relationship, the negative/positive space exists-and it’s begging to be stabilized.

Please tell us about www.NinaAndorf.com.
As a graphic designer and art director based in the beautiful city of Chicago, I specialize in brand development, environmental graphic design, and other forms of communication design such as layout and publication design. I see the bigger picture when it comes to projects and I take an empathetic approach to solving communication problems within the design landscape.

By understanding what you want your audience/end user to feel and how the final product will impact them, I work hard to find the solution that fills in the right blanks. I seek work that pushes the envelope in subject matter and intention. I feel the best projects are those that benefit others and the world around us, changing how people feel and think.

This is an ideal I hold close to my heart, and I am very proud to say it will always be the foundation of my mission. I highly appreciate open-minded clients with a passion for positive change so I can improve their situations and maximize results. I communicate solutions through design that feels right.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have worried less and trusted myself more. It’s really that simple.
