Meet Nicole Radford Oehler of Radford Design in Andersonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Radford Oehler.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was always a very curious & creative kid, preferring Legos to Barbies and digging for worms over ballet. My Dad had an amazing workshop and my days were spent rustling through his tools and re-purposing wood scraps & sawdust, nails, and leftover paint into forts for my brother’s GI Joes, pictures, and even the Statue of Liberty (torch flame courtesy of steel wool & spray paint).

After an early career in event sales, I had a burning to follow my heart and went to design school. I started at the bottom, taking a receptionist job at a high-end design firm which quickly turned into a solve it all “Girl Friday” & project manager. I loved learning and marveled in every detail from the finest cashmere to the dusty demo site. After about 4 years, I started Radford Design.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would describe the road more like a roller coaster test track over smooth. I started Radford when the housing market was in the tank and architects, builders, and designers were drying up.  I saw a need for accessible, budget-friendly design and I went after it. As a small business owner and designer, you’re continually managing a million spinning balls. Listening, flexibility and experience are what levels the road.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Radford Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Radford Design is a full-service interior design company that specializes in approachable design. We work with clients to help define the vision they have for their lifestyle and space and turn that dream into a home. We’re known for timeless interiors with personality which represents who the client really is.

I’m most proud of the changes our work has made in our clients’ outlook of life. Even small tweaks can create a sense of peace or provide new found energy. I truly believe your home is your sanctuary.

What I think sets us apart is an innate curiosity & a laid back approach. We are able to understand our clients’ true needs and desires even if they don’t know the first thing about design.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to expanding Radford Design with a focus on thoughtful real estate development.
