Rugan’s was founded on the concept of bringing a city vibe to the suburbs. So many young families move out of the city but still seek that sort of experience when they go out. We offer high-quality craft cocktails, over 100 craft beers, an extensive wine list and delicious seasonal small plate food items. Our tagline is “Where Friends Meet” and Rugan’s is truly that. The atmosphere is casual elegance where you can stop by after work to meet with some friends, or for that special date night out!
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning your own business is never without its challenges. We’ve recently opened a second location in Burlington, Wisconsin and finding the balance to manage both is always challenging considering we are a boutique operation owned by just the two of us. Luckily we have an amazing staff!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rugan’s story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a Wine, Martini and Ale House that offers unique small plate gastropub fare. We are known for delicious fresh craft cocktails. We never use cheaters or low-end product, everything is fresh muddled. We offer over 150 craft beers which constantly change. You can stay up to date on our offering by following us on Untappd.com. Wine has always been a big part of what we do and we carry a wide variety to appeal to any palate. When we first opened our doors in 2006 we were primarily a tapas restaurant. The demand for larger portions forced our hand to evolve into a more extensive menu so we now offer more small plate, gastropub fare! Our Burlington, WI location offers an even larger menu! Both our locations feature live music every Friday and Saturday night. Rugan’s has always been the place where we want everyone to feel comfortable. No matter your background or occupation, when you walk through the door, you will probably leave having met a new friend or acquaintance.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We’ve pretty much always stayed true to our original vision of keeping it simple, providing elevated gastropub favorites and not taking ourselves too seriously. In our opinion, people like good quality standards with a twist. When food and drink get too edgy, it’s not sustainable. Natural, farm to table, sustainable ingredients have done right is where it’s at. Keep it simple!
