Meet Nick Gangas of Steak + Vine in La Grange

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Gangas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in the restaurant business. My family owned several stores in the suburbs where I worked as a child. After graduating from Loyola University I had a brief stint in the insurance industry before I went back into the family business. We owned and operated Inkahoots restaurant in La Grange, Slammers Sports bar in Westmont and Omega Restaurants in Niles and Downers Grove. Afterwards I worked for Lettuce Entertain You rising to the position of GM at Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the restaurant business the road eventually always become a little rough at certain points. As the business cycle goes up and down so do your fortunes. You need to be open minded and adaptable to keep your store competitive. You must also be up on the trends to keep it vital and current.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Steak + Vine LLC – what should we know?
We are a neighborhood steakhouse. We serve prime steaks and seafood plus over a 100 bottle wine list and 50 + bourbons and whiskeys. Most restaurants in the suburbs don’t serve prime steak and we also serve a side with each dinner. Again not something many do.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We have to keep a friendly feel to our service as well as provide good value. We also have a full menu besides the steaks to serve everyone’s needs.

I have been in Steak + Vine a couple of times and they are hitting homeruns in all aspects. The food is excellent! (I had the ribeye with the brussel sprouts.) The service is friendly and attentive. They have several whiskeys you will not find in other restaurants. Good setting for date night or nice family dinner.
