Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Principe.
Melanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My photography journey started in high school when I got my first camera. I’ve always been creative at heart. After graduating HS in 2012, I attended Columbia College Chicago. In the summer of 2014, I shot my first wedding and I knew that photography was what I wanted to spend my life doing. In 2015 I earned my bachelors degree in Commercial Photography, along with attaining many great friends and connections along the way.
When I first began in the world of photography I was very focused on getting the gear I thought I needed and focusing on (in my opinion) the least important aspects of this industry. Soon after high school, I realized that the largest and most important part of this industry was creating relationships and really connecting with the couples I work with. Since then, I’ve been telling some pretty rad love stories.
This all led to where I am today, a full-time wedding photographer!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t complain. I’ve absolutely had my share of learning experiences but overall its been a pretty smooth ride. All thanks to my amazing and supportive husband & family. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
Melanie Principe Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Melanie Principe Photography is a wedding/elopement/portrait photography company. What I’m proud of and what sets me apart definitely goes hand in hand, the answer to both of these would be the strong connection and friendship I create with my couples. This connection is really what gets my creativity flowing.
I am a lover of natural light, in order to get the romantic/candid photos I strive to create, I tend to stay away from flash as much as possible. Every shot I take is thought out and will play a part in telling the story of your wedding day.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I can’t pinpoint just one moment, but overall I am most proud of where my business is today. My success in 2018 is only going to fuel my fire!
