Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Puma.
Mayra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my career after being in the medical field for 10 years. I had experience working with allergy specialists, plastic and cosmetic surgeons but mostly with dermatology providers. I learned an enormous amount of information that I knew I had to put to good use. My mother has successfully run a business for 20 years and is something I’ve always admired about her. I always knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Aesthetics has been a way for me to combine my passion for science, beauty and wellness and has given me the opportunity to create my own path. I am proud to say that I am the owner of Skin Care by MJP and I’m super excited for what the future holds.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have been fortunate enough to have my mother as a business mentor. She has been in business for 2 decades in the beauty world and has taken me under her wing. I have also been very fortunate to work for one of the top dermatologist in the area which has exposed me to some of the best training available. I would say the struggle lies in juggling all the responsibilities that come with being a business owner. I am in charge of not only providing the services, but also managing the marketing side, the accounting side, the administrative side and a myriad of other responsibilities that come with running a business. Although it can be difficult at times managing all your duties, I have taken great pleasure in learning how to balance it all.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Skin Care by MJP – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I operate a skincare studio. I offer treatments for clients dealing with skin conditions such as acne, pigmentation disorders, sensitivity issues or those looking to rejuvenate their skin. I would consider acne to be my specialty. I absolutely love seeing the transformation in clients who suffer with this condition. It is such a common skin disorder and one that greatly affects your self-esteem. I make sure we go over all possible causes of their acne, such as diet, cosmetics, skincare habits, etc. and provide a thorough evaluation of their condition. I follow up with clients to make sure they know how to use all their products, are tolerating everything they are using and have a complete understanding of their treatment plan. I give every single client all the time necessary for them to be completely satisfied with my services and always show my gratitude for allowing me to help them achieve a healthier complexion.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely love how multicultural our city is. I have lived and visited may cities and have never seen a more diverse group of people like here in Chicago. Our Lakefront is also absolutely stunning and provides a gorgeous backdrop for any event imaginable. Unfortunately, as with any big city, we deal with our fair share of crime. This issue alone can be discussed at length but I’ll leave it at this: “one must always find beauty in a world of chaos”.
